FYI, here's a re-post of the Goodyear low rolling
resistance tire sizes and code numbers. Credit for
this info goes to the EAA newsletter, "Curreny EVents".

FYI:
Yokohama has developed tire specifically for EV's. The designation is :
165R14-6PR LT.
They have 10% less weight, and 30% less rolling resistance, without
sacraficing performance, according to Yoko.
This was reported in the SAE automotive engineering magazine, November,
1993 issue (pg 19).

The EV tire engineer rep at Goodyear is Bill Egan phone
(216)-795-2715.
He is helping the high school racing teams on the east coast for
this April's EV Grand Prix 94 at Richmond, VA.
By the way, is there any listing of low rr tires available (by any
manufacturer)?

Consumer's Reports tested the Goodyear Invicta GL along with a dozen other
all-season tires in their Feb 1992 issue. Overall it was near the bottom of
the ratings. RR (rolling resistance) was slightly above average. The
Michelin XA4, BF Goodrich Advantage, and Firestone FR480 and FR680 were top
rated for RR.
They tested the Goodyear Invicta GS against 9 others in Feb 94. Again, it
was next to last, and RR was only average. The best RR in this group were
the Bridgestone Turanza S and BF Goodrich Advantage.
RR was measured by mounting each set on a car, and recording the time it took
to coast 2100 feet from a 40 mph start.

Subject: LOW RR TIRES
I talked with the Solar Car Co. Tech Assistant about a week ago. Invicta
GLR's are original equipment on new cars (Chrysler specifically) and are
the low RR version of the Invicta. The replacement model, which used to be
designated Invicta GFE, is now Invicta GA(L). Both are the same design, the
difference in model numbers being that one is orignal equipment and the
other is aftermarket. The gentleman at Solar Car deals directly with
Goodyear and had the fax from the company in front of him. I've found these
in the Seattle area at Discount Tire Co. for about $70 apiece. Another tire
that has been touted for low RR is the Michelin "Green" tire, model number
MXV4. Michelin claims 35% reduction RR vice 20% for the Invicta. Found
these at the same company as above for about $85 apiece (ouch!). I'm going
to try out a set of the Michelins on an updated Jet Industries Courier
pickup, and I'll try to get some before and after data to see if they make
any difference. My gas car is needing tires also, and I'm going to put a
set of Bridgestone Turanza's on it and see how they do.
